Yet how much is Raffles being distracted himself Mary Flanagan, Fuller's beautiful and enigmatic maid? Has someone finally stolen the gentleman thief's heart?
This brilliant novella will appeal to readers of the original Raffles stories, devotees of Sherlock Holmes, traditional detective stories, and fans of historical and cricketing fiction.
The Raffles series has been widely praised.
In Praise of The Raffles series
‘A capital story! Strong characters, sparkling dialogue, a plot with a twist as the gentleman thief plies his trade again. Devotees of the original stories will rejoice at his return new fans will greet a fresh hero and wait impatiently for more adventures. Raffles, burglar extraordinaire, master cricketer, welcome back to The Albany!’ - David Dickinson, author of The Lord Powerscourt Mysteries
'This story is not only a joy because of the wonderful characterizations of Raffles and Bunny, but the ret of the ensemble is both amusing and full of personality.I found myself often laughing with Raffles and cringing with Bunny at the various people they encounter. The casual mention of real people like H.G.Wells, Winston Churchill and the famous sportsman C.B.Fry - here a friend of Raffles - naturally brings authenticity to the story, and you really do feel like you're witnessing history first hand.' Dawn, The Baker Street Babes

Raffles Bowled Over edition by Richard Foreman Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
Having read Raffles The Gentleman Thief I was looking forward to the second installment of the series. Raffles decides to rob a banker, in a story that deliberately has contemporary echoes and jokes. It has all the best aspects of the original Raffles stories too. The series is becoming a kindle essential.
A friend recommended this series too me, and I'm glad they did so. Although he's on the wrong side of the law, if you enjoy Sherlock Holmes you should enjoy Raffles too. There are some nice in jokes in this book, in regards to the banker/villain of the piece, and the author is able to make you laugh and make you feel sympathy for the characters in equal measure. Classy and fun. Worth downloading.
I read an article by the author in the Spectator, which made me buy the first book in series. Duly enjoyed Raffles The Gentleman Thief. But this second book is even better. The story works on its own (though there are odd references to first book). This series is a class apart from most ebooks. The style and politically incorrect humour remind me of Flashman, but Foreman also stays true to Hornung's original stories. Churchill makes a brief appearance, and the portrait of C.B. Fry is affectionate and entertaining. The love story is sweet, the ending unexpected. All in all, fantastic.
THIS IS ONLY MY SECOND RAFFLES BOOK. Light reading with uncomplicated plot, but a surprise or so. You really get to know both Raffles and Bunny and they are likeable chaps. It's like listening to someone tell you a story about someone they know. FRIENDLY!
Delighted to see the return of Raffles and Bunny. In this episode, the duo take on a banker of unimaginable wealth, though his gains are largely ill-gotten. Raffles seeks to punish his peer in characteristic fashion in an attempt to help more deserving causes a theme which might strike a chord with many readers today. As the story develops, the possibility of Raffles' involvement with a charming young housemaid is completely absorbing and certainly sheds light on an emotionally enigmatic character. The possibility that he has met his match only intrigues the reader further. This is the best ebook series I've read on kindle yet.
Raffles Bowled Over is the title of Richard Foreman's second story about A. J. Raffles, amateur thief and professional cricketer. An apt title, since that's exactly how this reader felt.
In this story which picks up where Raffles The Gentleman Thief left off, Raffles takes on a job close to home. His new neighbor at the Albany is a famous banker whose fortune is only surpassed in volume by his obnoxious nature. Raffles' plans are in danger of being thwarted, though, when he meets the beautiful maid Mary, who might be stealing his heart. But, as often happens, things are not as they seem!
This story is not only a joy because of the wonderful characterizations of Raffles and Bunny, but the rest of the ensemble is both amusing and full of personality. I found myself often laughing with Raffles and cringing with Bunny at the various people they encounter. The casual mention of real people like H. G. Wells, Winston Churchill and the famous sportsman C. B. Fry - here a friend of Raffles, naturally - brings authenticity to the story, and you really do feel like you're witnessing history first hand.
One small thing stands out, which has nothing to do with plot or the story as such, but brought a smile to my face. In E. W. Hornung's original stories he would every now and then introduce his readers to new inventions that saw the light of the day during the 19th century like the telephone, the torchlight, or the bicycle. Foreman hasn't missed the opportunity to honor this tradition as he has Bunny mention the new thing known as the escalator. It's yet another example of the many wonderful details Foreman puts into his stories and it's why they are such a pleasure to read.
Hated it. Could not finish it. Stupid stupid stupid.
